Butterfly Beach is located at 37kms from Palolem beach in South Goa and is often confused for an island because of how difficult it is to access. But all good things come at a cost and this beach requires your dedication to experience its beauty.  The beach is a semi-circular shaped one that you can have access to only via a boat or through trekking through the dense forests that surround the beach. Hence many travellers feel like the beach is an island.

What’s more and why should you visit Butterfly Beach? Let’s give you solid reasons!

Butterflies, Gold Fishes and Crabs:

As the name suggests the butterfly beach gets its name from the various exotic species of butterflies that are found here. With some of the most beautiful winged butterflies, you can find at least 10 different species of rare butterflies that you can not have access to otherwise. Pristine waters, clear white sand and butterflies. Sounds like a dream sequence to us and you seem like the perfect main character, dear traveller.

Another unique aspect to this stunning island looking beach is that you can find a surprisingly huge number of claw-handed friends like crabs during the low-tide hours of the day. Also, you can spot many goldfishes and make a Nemo friend here! What a great place to be at instead of the overcrowded beaches of Goa. Make sure you have a camera in handy to capture these amazing memories on a film roll! Why plan expensive itineraries to the Maldives and Other international beach destinations when you can experience it all at this less explored beach in South Goa.

Dolphins love humans but they also love feeling secure in places that are less crowded or populated. Sit back and relax or ride the waves:

Some fun activities that you can do at the butterfly beach include sunbathing, taking a walk on the beach, or you could take a boat to neighbouring beaches like Palolem and Agonda and also take up trekking at the forest cover this beach has to offer.

We are sure you are hyped to visit this beautiful beach but it gets a little tricky:

But don’t worry as we guide you with how you can reach the butterfly beach:

  1. You can access the beach via a boat from nearby beaches like Palolem and agenda. The boat tariff would cost you around 1,000 to 1,200 Rs but it is a lot more relaxed way to reach the beach. You can enjoy the ride while also spotting Dolphins on your way to the beach.
  2. If you are an adventure freak and would like to add more to your experience getting here. You can trek through the dense forest cover of the beach and make the most out of your journey to get to the beach. If you trek from Palolem it can take you a good 2 hours to get to Butterfly Beach but as we said- all worth it.

But how do you reach Palolem or Agonda Beach?

Here’s how: you can hire a cab from Panjim and get to Palolem or Agonda. Then take a boat ferry or trek your way to the butterfly beach. Make sure you head back from the butterfly beach before it gets dark. As the beach is not directly connected to any nearby place or accommodation.

Best Time to Visit Butterfly Beach:

November and March or April and May. You can visit the beach from Mondays to Sundays all 7 days of the week. The beach can be accessed from 9 am to 5 pm giving you enough time to explore the place.

To put it all together, the butterfly beach is a complete experience in itself. It is an untouched gem that travelers must visit at least once whenever they are in Goa.
