With its highest cable car in Asia, and second highest in the world, Gulmarg Gondola, is one of Gulmarg’s most popular attractions. In fact, a visit to Gulmarg wouldn’t be complete unless you rode the cable car.

Kongdori is one of the stops. The starting point of Gulmarg Gondola is 20 mins away from Gulmarg. The ride begins from Gulmarg covering the Kongdori station (8,530 ft.) and ends at the Apharwat mountain top (13,500 ft.).

The panoramic view of the Pir Panjal range and Nanda Devi Peak en route. In about 10 minutes, you can reach Kongdori from Gulmarg and 12 minutes from Kongdori to Apharwat.

Alluring Views

The ride serves two purposes- transportation and leisurely entertainment. The ride ferries around 6 people at a time and 600 people per hour to and from Apharwat Mountain. The operational timings are from 10 AM to 5 PM, but they may vary depending on the weather conditions.

It is possible to hike up the mountain for 30 minutes and enjoy stunning views of the LoC, the Pir Panjal range, and Nanda Devi. Besides the mesmerizing views, the thrill of ascending makes the ride worthwhile.
History of Gulmarg Gondola

According to history, the Gulmarg Gondola Project was initiated by the Jammu and Kashmir government in 1987. The Jammu and Kashmir government collaborated with French firm Pomagalski to build this ropeway project and make it a grand success.
