In the talks of secret tunnels, Amritsar remains under the cover. The city has significant war history of unexplored tunnels where a different world exists! Some tunnels have been more than 400 years old. The book, Tawarikh Lahore-Amritsar, mentions about the presence of more than two dozen tunnels in the city. In1990 a tunnel in Katra Bhagian was found inside a mansion. It was demolished as it remained unattended by Archaeological Survey of India. Similarly, a 5.5 feet wide tunnel in 2006 was found but filled with cement by the locals. Yet another tunnel was found as an escape route of Guru Hargobind Sahib. It went right from his fort to the Golden Temple but remains unexplored. There are some historically significant tunnels yet to be discovered here.
