As much as one thinks of Rajasthan as a state of great heritage, when you visit Udaipur it suddenly hits you with the co-existence of traditional and modern livelihoods. People in Udaipur are always very active and the city in the evening is always hustling and bustling throughout. The widest of roads and the narrowest of lanes lead you to an entirely different place each time!
All the tourist attractions to visit in Udaipur are worth visiting.
All the sites to visit in Udaipur are worth visiting. This City is not just about the City Palace because there are so much more. And so many places that are highly captivating! While the beauty of Lake Pichola, Jagdish Temple, Saheliyon-ki-Bari, and Fateh Sagar lake Tempt you to just sit back and take in their stunning views, the mysteries and the history takes you in search of iconic and historic places that either narrate tales of battles and wars or the ones that silently faded behind the largest walls.
Places like Haldi Ghati and Kumbhalgarh still are just as alive as they were back in the day but are almost beautifully haunting as you feel the story a little deeper. The land of Maharana Pratap and Udai Singh Ji, the place is just as capable of holding its doors open for guests and shutting them when anything threatens its people. Sajjangarh on the other Hand sits like a crown on the forehead of Udaipur and adds just as much glory to the beauty of Udaipur.
Overview
With all these stunning locations that all deserve their very own ‘I am the main character energy’ blogs, today we are going to talk about the small yet stunning, garden of maidens or Saheliyon ki Baari. Saheli means a female friend and Baari usually means a garden with ponds and pools. a very interesting take I found on Saheliyon ki bari was how we always see places like the Taj Mahal as the ultimate ode to love that a husband built for his wife. But Saheliyon ki Baari is also one such romantic gesture by the King of Mewar Dynasty- Rana Sanga. Let’s take a quick tour of the place and get to know more about it!
Saheliyon ki Baari- the garden of maidens
While many places have very metaphorical names, Saheliyon ki Baari has a very simple one. And the Name reveals all that there is to this beautiful garden. Why is it named Saheliyon ki Baari? Let’s go back in time and relive history.
Story Time Folks- The King of Mewar Dynasty Maharana Sangram Singh built this beautiful Courtyard or Garden for his Queen and gifted her this cute little architectural marvel. However, when the Queen married Maharana Sangram Singh she was accompanied by 48 maidens! And thus these 48 maidens were always with the Queen whenever she would visit the Baari or courtyard. Even today as you walk through a very grand entrance that has beautifully lined lush greenery paving the way, with fountains that produce intricate designs, it is almost amusing to see a garden so modern built back in the day. The Baari dates back to the year 1734. The Garden was built as a relaxation and rejuvenation spot for the Royal Ladies.
Best times to visit Udaipur: September and March.
People in Udaipur might have a lot of choices to spoil them but in their hearts, they’re just peace-loving and soul-loving people. They will choose lake Fateh Sagar and a cup of tea with friends over malls and expensive coffees. They will always choose heart over their minds and peace over the greatest of luxuries. People here truly value life and the little things in it. So much so that you will come across an art gallery below most of the houses which symbolizes how expressive the residents are.
Throughout your trip, you can feel the soul of the song Dum-a-Dum mast kalandar from Dhanak. The city offers one thing every individual tries to seek, which is loving yourself.
