The ideas of freedom and liberty, in all senses, are very strong in humans. We are averse to restrictions and confinement. However, this nightmare of ours came unanimously true with the COVID-19 lockdowns. We were confined to the 4 walls of our homes for months at end. Consequently, after such impositions, people went berserk to travel as soon as the curbs had been lifted. Well aware of the fact that travel during COVID-19 is dangerous for literally everybody people didn’t stop. The phenomenon of breaking free after being restricted for a certain duration is referred to as revenge travel or revenge travelling. Here, we shall explore the revenge travel trends in detail.

What Is Revenge Travel?

Revenge travel is a newly coined term. It refers to the desires of people to break free from the mundane routine caused by the pandemic. Earlier, with the peak of COVID-19 cases and strict lockdowns, there was a new and raging fear of stepping out from the house, let alone travelling. This dip in external exposure led to a monotonous routine. People were doing the exact same things in the exact same place, day after day. As soon as the number of COVID cases started to fall, everybody desired a break from this routine. Moreover, they wanted to get rid of the “lockdown fatigue” or exhaustion from monotony. This desire lead them to hill stations and other tourist spots to relax and rejuvenate. So this is revenge travel.

Agreeably, it is tempting to travel after months of restrictions. However, it is preferable for you to not travel during the pandemic. Especially to popular tourist spots. This can put your life at risk along with those around you. COVID-19 is an easily transmitted airborne disease. Crowded and public places are a hub for the virus to spread rapidly. Therefore, it is best for one to avoid these places.

If you still must travel, you can visit places with lesser crowds so that you can maintain proper social distance. While travelling, also ensure that you adhere to all the safety protocols to avoid both contracting and transmitting the virus.

Although there has been a general decline in the number of COVID cases in India, the threat is not over yet. If we are not vigilant and act upon the given precautionary methods, we’ll be welcoming the third wave sooner. If you are travelling make sure to follow all the safety precautions, maintain social distance and self-quarantine once your return. Remember, our goal as a country and community of travellers is to contain the virus so that we can travel freely like the good old days soon.
