Through this travel story, we present you with a chance to explore the mythical land, wooing magic, and the glaring stretch of Himalayan ranges. The thrilling terrains and majestic beauty of Kedarkantha will leave you nothing but bedazzled.
Natasha is from Bombay and is into social media. An ex-restaurant reviewer, she picked up traveling a few years ago and loves sharing experiences on Instagram. Exploring local places and food joints is her ultimate passion. Travel has helped her heal and find herself in many ways. So she went to explore the mountains of Uttarakhand with her 7 other friends on a week-long trip.
"The mountains are calling, and I must go."
Day 1
She flew from Bombay directly to Dehradun; upon reaching, they had a hostel pre-booked. After getting settled and having some food, they headed out to explore the nearby market. Later in the day they took a bus from Dehradun railway station and went to Sankri. It is a small village and a starting point for the trek. Arriving in the evening they checked into their homestay and had dinner. Having traveled all day, they called it a day.
Day 2
On day 2 they finally started the trek for Kedarkantha for which they came all the way to Uttarakhand. It took them about 4-5 hours to reach the Juda ka Talab. Situated at a stark elevation of 2,700 meters above sea level, it is a mesmerizing sight that offers scenic Himalayan landscapes. It also acts as a camping ground for trekkers attempting the Kedarkantha summit. Natasha and her friends halted in the tent and had quite a bit of fun. They booked this trek through Himalayas Griffon, which is a trekking company in Uttarakhand. The accommodation, food, and transport came along with their package. After enjoying some snacks in the evening and later dinner, they slept peacefully, in the arms of nature.
Day 3
On the third day, they resumed their trek and headed for the Kedarkantha base camp. Again it is a 4-5 hour hike. Upon making their way to the base camp, they again were in the tent and rested on the grounds.
Day 4
They started the trek very early by 2:30 am and intended to reach the top by the sunrise. The last stretch of the trek is pretty steep and it took them about 5-6 hours to make it to the top. They couldn’t stay for long since the temperature was very low and the winds were high. After spending some time and taking some photos they started their descent. Upon reaching the base camp they had their lunch and after a little rest, again started descending towards Juda ka Talab. For the day they stayed there in the tent.
Day 5
Having completed the summit successfully, they arrived back in Sankri, and then the bus took them back. Since Mussoorie was on the way, Natasha and her friends got off mid-way. They booked their stay at goSTOPS for 2 nights. They hired bikes to commute locally.
Day 6
The next day they kept the day light and went roaming around a few places, like Laal Dibba, Mall road, and other tourist places. They had their lunch and dinner at beautiful cafes and called it a night.
Day 7
From Mussoorie, they booked a cab back to Dehradun and took a flight to Bombay. This was the end of their adventurous trip.
We highly recommend taking on this Summit. Kedarkantha is the first such trek that introduced snow trekking. It opened a whole new world for thrill-seekers. Being moderate on the difficulty level, it is a perfect trek for beginners. It not only offers a scenic beauty but also allows you to experience the beauty of meadows, snow paths dotted with lovely lakes and tranquil rivers, and the magnificent Himalayan peak.
