Location

Mechuka is located in the Shi Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh. This place is about 29 km away from the McMahon Line, which separates India from the Tibetan region of China. The place is famous for its natural landscapes and pristine beauty. This is one of the most picturesque places in the Northeast of India.

Historical significance

Mechuka place means Men- medicine, chu- means water, and kha- means ice or snow. The water from mountains is considered medicinal water. This place has historical significance and cultural significance as well.

Earlier in ancient times, the only village access was the airstrip in use by the Indian Air Force for the supply of goods to the locals. Cattle and horses were traded as they were considered rich. Tibet salts and medicine were popular. Horse traveling was also an important mode of transport during the ancient times when no modern were formed.

  • Day 4: After breakfast head to the Darjeeling village and enjoys the village scenery and the hanging bridge later. Head to the hotel. Overnight stay
  • Day 5: Departure for the airport and back home.

400-year-old Monastery

The very famous Old Gompa monastery is about 400 years old and is at Mechuka. It’s about 14 km from Mechuka by trekking only. The roads are narrow for the cars to travel. The scenery around is mesmerizing and the picturesque landscape is breathtaking. The old monks offer juice and snacks to the visitors and inner peace is over here due to the spiritual environment.

Best time to visit

The weather is pleasant from September to March. The best time to visit is during November, to witness the adventure festival of the locals. It snows in December and January and the place looks even more beautiful.

How to reach

Since Mechuka is an offbeat destination, the best way is to reach it by road. The nearest airport is Dibrugarh around 436 km long and then North Lakhimpur airport in Assam about 487 km away from Mechuka.
