India, undoubtedly, has a vast and varied landscape that offers gorgeous views that make your jaws drop. So no matter what landscape you choose to relax and rejuvenate, you will find countless options here in India. Speaking of relaxing natural views, we decided to bring to you a list of serene lakes in India. From manmade to natural, this list has all the beautiful lakes to visit in India, also featuring The Prashar Lake. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into it.
Pushkar Lake, Rajasthan
Among the many tourist attractions in Rajasthan, Pushkar Lake is the one that attracts both Indians and foreigners equally. It is a massive manmade lake that is considered sacred by Hindu devotees. It is surrounded by 52 bathing ghats where pilgrims stop by to take a sacred bath. This ritual of bathing in the ghat is practiced especially during Kartik Poornima, a holy time of the year for the Hindus.
Prashar Lake, Himachal Pradesh
The Prashar or Mandi Lake is a glacial lake next to a temple dedicated to Sage Prashar. The lake is located on the peak of a small hill. The hike is easy even if you are traveling with kids. Moreover, the lake has dark blue water that makes it stand apart from the rest of the landscape.
Pangong Tso, Ladakh
A brackish water lake that is almost five hours away from Leh, Pangong Tso is a pristine lake and probably one of the highest lakes. The drive from Leh to the lake is an added bonus while visiting the spot as it is mountainous and exciting. And you know what’s even more exciting? A large part of this lake falls in mainland China and the Line of Actual Control runs through the lake. Wow!
Roopkund Lake, Uttarakhand
There is something about spooky, chilling stories that excite us Indians. This is, perhaps, why we have a lake with human bones and remains that date back to 850 A.D. The Roopkund Lake, also known as the Mystery Lake is a glacial lake in Uttarakhand. It is located at an altitude of 5029 meters above sea level. Reaching this lake demands you to trek the snowy mountain for nearly a week. However, you need to be physically fit with no heart or breathing problems to be able to trek and have a look at this bewitching lake. The best time to visit is post-winter as the melting snow allows you a peek into the remains of nearly 200 people in the lake.
Tsomgo Lake, Sikkim
The Tsomgo lake is located at a distance of 35 km from the state capital, Gangtok. The water in this lake is fed by the melting glaciers surrounding it. The high altitude at which this lake is located offers you a mesmerizing view of the high peaks around it. You will also catch the sight of yaks decked up in colorful attire. Clean pristine waters and the sooting chimes of prayer bells in the background make this place all the more calming and serene.
And that was the list of a few of the many beautiful lakes in India. There are countless others spread across the country that offer a unique view and a setting where you can simply sit and relax. If you have had an experience as such at any lake in India, do let us know in the comments below.
