Sanganeri Block printing is a 500-year-old craft form. The craft is so unique and can be done only in this specific area in Jaipur because the unique ambience and environment. The artisans of this craft come from the Shri Vitthal Namdev Chippa Samaj (community). Back then, the Maharaja of Rajasthan invited Block printing artists from Maharashtra, MP, and Gujarat, who later established here.
In the earlier times, Sanganeri Block printing was done with natural dyes, which were extracted from flowers and plants and trees. It’s now done through the pigment process with the use of ezo free colours because they are eco-friendly and doesn’t harm our skin. Heating and ironing is done so that all other oils vaporize from the colours. The designs are usually floral and nature-inspired, and Mughal aesthetics.
Sanganeri Block Printing received a GI tag (geographical indication) few years back. Sanganer is considered as the most ideal area for block printing because of the suitable atmosphere.
