History of Mandu

Mandu was originally found by Raja Bhoj in the 10th century and was later conquered by the Mughal Rulers of Delhi in 1304. Many artistic monuments and mosques were built in the city. In 1561, Akbar conquered this place, and later in 1732, Marathas came into power to rule the region for a long time.

The place is suitable for history buffs as many stories revolve around the place. In the story of Rani Roopmati and Prince Baz Bahadur, the love and romance of the couple are still alive in the magnificent architecture in the Malwa period. Handicrafts and shopping are also popular in this place. The local shops are famous for sarees such as Chanderi, handwoven, block print, Maheshwari, silk chiffon, zardozi work, etc.
The very famous rock-cut cave paintings in Mandu are also the special features of the Mandu architecture and rich heritage.
Apart from Rani Roopmati’s Pavilion and famous Bahadur shah’s palace, the Afghan architecture inspired Jami mosque, is the finest example of things to see around.
