Standing glamorously on the shore of this man-made marvel was made by the king for his lady love Shila. The palace once served as a retreat for royalty. The white palace on the lakefront still stands as a silent testament to its glorious past. Efforts are being made to restore this majestic marvel to its former glory and transform it into a heritage luxury hotel.

Reasons to visit this man-made lake in India

Siliserh lake, among other Rajasthan lakes, has a very unique origin. This man-made lake is one of the Indian lakes that serves as a popular picnic spot for locals, with its verdant pastures on the edge of the lake. However, its prime location also makes it the perfect backdrop for the Neemrana Fort Palace on one side and the gateway to the Sariska National Park on the other. The Aravalli range in the background makes for a truly picturesque view.

The palace is built on a hill that juts out into the lake, providing a panoramic view of the lake. One of the most astonishing aspects of this hill is that even when all vegetation has dried up during the harsh summers, this hill remains lushly green.

The palace now operates as a hotel by the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC). You can enjoy the serene waters by boat with the chance of watching various migratory birds and spotting a crocodile or two. Unlike some other lakes in India, swimming in the lake is strictly prohibited.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit Siliserh is from November to February when the weather is pleasantly cool. The cold weather makes the landscape even more picturesque. Moreover, the clear skies provide plenty of opportunities to see the stars at night. The palace holds a beautiful sight, with its elegant platform in the middle of the lake, perfect for organizing theme parties and dinners.
