Connaught Place- A showpiece of ‘Lutyens’. 

Connaught Place is named after the Duke of Connaught and was built for the elite class living in New Delhi. Fondly known as CP, Connaught Place was planned by the British architect Edwin Lutyens and was created as the city center of New Delhi. The word Connaught means- a province or a large part of the country, and it was built in the year 1929. Connaught Place consists of two concentric circles of buildings forming three-wheel-like roads – the Inner circle, the middle, and the outer circle.

History of Connaught Place.  

The construction of Connaught place took around 4 years(1929-1933). The design of Connaught Place was inspired by ‘The Crescent’ in Bath and is also known as the Lutyens Bungalow Zone(LBZ). It is hence, a fond example of Georgian architecture, located in the center of the capital- ‘New Delhi’.

Modern Connaught Place (Present Conditions )

Today, Connaught Place is fondly known as CP, the commercial paradise with underground air-conditioned markets such as Palika Bazaar, global chain stores, bars, restaurants, vintage cinemas, etc. This place is a complete fusion of Old Delhi’s cultures and traditions, along with mesmerizing New Delhi’s modern trends, shopping, and art experience.

  1. Visit to Madame Tussaud’s – Click photos with your favourite celebrities. Discover the wax models. 
  2. Tickets : 650 per head – 1000 combo tickets for 2 pax. Enjoy the vintage cinema’s – PVR Rivoli, Carnival cinemas

  1. A visit to Jantar Mantar- Discover your inner astronomical experience at this place.  Fares: 15 -25 INR and 200 INR (foreigners) 
  2. Explore historic places such as Agrasen ki Baoli- Although it doesn’t have any historical records but it’s an ancient historic monument. Visit between 9 AM to 5 PM to explore some ancient experience. 
  3. Go museum hopping – The Dhoomimal Art Centre, National Charkha Museum  
  4. Take a walk in Central Park.
  5. Enjoy some great food at Wenger’s Deli, Kulcha Junction.   
  6. Have a drink at Lords of drinks, The Darzi Bar & Kitchen.  
  7. Indulge in some shopping experience with home décor, junk jewellery, clothes as well as handicrafts, accessories, handbags, shoes etc.   
  8. Visit the religious place around such as Hanuman mandir, Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, Heart Cathedral church.
